England star Danny Drinkwater was attacked by a gang of at least six thugs after he tried to chat up a rival player's girlfriend during a night out, it has been alleged.
The 29-year-old Chelsea midfielder suffered torn ankle ligaments in the fight outside Manchester's Chinawhite club early last Sunday, and is expected to be off the pitch for at least four weeks.
He is claimed to have approached Scunthorpe United player Kgosi Ntlhe's girlfriend.
Drinkwater has been on loan to Burnley Football Club since August, yet has made just one appearance during their Carabao Cup defeat to Sunderland last month.
