President Donald may have lied to special counsel Robert Mueller about his knowledge of his campaign's contacts with WikiLeaks, House Democrats claimed in a court filing on Monday. 

Mueller wrapped up his report earlier this year with an inconclusive finding about — the president was not charged with any crimes, but Mueller pointedly said he did not exonerate

Now, in a bid to get the materials from the Mueller probe, which remain secret by law, attorneys for the House of Representatives have suggested that was aware of his campaign's contacts, according to Politico. 

On page 21 of the 32-page filing, Democrats make their argument by pointing out that Paul Manafort, 's former campaign chairman, '"recalled that " seemingly asked to be kept "updated" about WikiLeaks’s plans.' 

According to the filing that statement was pulled from Mueller's report. The filing continues to claim that Manafort’s deputy 'indicated that had some knowledge of those plans'.

The document then claims that the materials could 'demonstrate the president’s motives for obstructing the special counsel’s investigation' and 'reveal that was aware of his campaign’s contacts with WikiLeaks'.

Democrats wrote that information from the Mueller investigation may have 'direct bearing on whether the president was untruthful, and further obstructed the special counsel’s investigation, when in providing written responses to the special counsel’s questions he denied being aware of any communications between his campaign and WikiLeaks'.

It was also reported on Monday that  recently asked the Australian prime minister and other foreign leaders to help Attorney General William Barr with an investigation into the origins of the Russia probe that shadowed his administration for more than two years.

The revelation underscores the extent to which remains consumed by Mueller's investigation, and the ways in which he has used the apparatus of the US government to investigate what he believes are its politically motivated origins. 

It also highlights Barr's hands-on role in leading that investigation, including traveling overseas for personal meetings with foreign law enforcement officials.

's interactions with foreign leaders - and Barr's role in those discussions - are under heightened scrutiny now that the House has launched an impeachment inquiry into the president.
