The miraculous survival story of a Texas woman with dementia who disappeared for 10 days after she drove away from her family home and vanished without a trace has been recounted for the first time, following her emotional reunion with her family.

Linda Field, 62, was found alive deep in a woodland area an hour away from her San Jacinto County home on Friday, having initially been reported missing on September 17 by her daughter, Laura Bereta.

Bereta raised the alarm when she noticed the family's red Ford Explorer was missing from the driveway.

The car was spotted by a passer-by on outskirts of the woods on Friday, September 27, prompting authorities to deploy a K-9 unit in the area.

Field was found less than an hour later roaming around near a creek bed.

During her 240 hours alone in the wilderness, police say Field drank creek water and ate frogs and minnows to survive.

She was taken to the hospital where she was treated for dehydration but, incredibly, suffered no serious injuries.

The only physical evidence remaining of her frightening ordeal is the hundreds of bug bites she sustained across her legs, body and arms.

Despite being completely alone, lost and scared, Field says she never gave up hope that she would be found by rescuers.

'I knew I was going to be found,' she told KTRK, adding, 'It was God's time.'

Field says she isn't sure how she got lost in the woods, and insisted she has no memory of the day she went missing.
