Horrified parents were left 'disgusted' after finding out secret cameras may have been hidden in a primary school's toilet for five years.

Recording devices were discovered at Duncombe Primary School, in Holloway, north London, during the summer holidays.

But the startling find has only just been revealed to parents, who were told in a letter emailed to them by the chairman of the school's governors.

The cameras were immediately disconnected and reported to police when they were found by new headteacher Helen Ryan.

A subsequent investigation however, revealed they had been in place since 2014.

Officers discovered footage had been deleted monthly and there was 'no evidence of criminal activity.'

The school invited parents to meetings on Friday to answer questions and address any concerns about the find.

But outside the school gates this afternoon, parents said they felt none the wiser.

Nese Kensen, 32, said: 'They didn't explain much to us at a meeting this morning. But it was little concealed cameras and it was on an independent server.

'It's got nothing to do with the school. We have got the school cameras that go to the school server but this one was not done by the school. They don't know who authorised it.

'It's very worrying. The council don't know about it, the school don't know, and staff didn't know. Apparently only two people know about it but they aren't giving us names.'

Another parent, who wished not be named, said: 'I'm shocked, all the people are shocked. Since 2014 they were there. The police are coming on Monday to tell parents about it.'

The school's governors say it has now made changes to comply with legislation.

In a letter to parent's Douglas Cowie, chair of the board of governors, said: 'Prior to Helen formally raking up her Headship, she became aware and was alerted to the installation of concealed cameras facing the wash basin areas had been installed in the children's toilets at Duncombe dating back to
