Oscar Alvarez cut a heavy figure when he emerged inside the Bronx County Hall of Justice this afternoon, revealing a stark transformation since his initial appearance inside the courtroom in May 2018.

The 30-year-old is accused of stabbing his pregnant girlfriend, Liv Abreu, a half-dozen times in the chest and once in the side during a violent domestic dispute inside their apartment on Walton Avenue in The Bronx on May 22.

His brief appearance came ahead of his trial for attempted murder, assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, assault and weapons possession in connection to the frenzied knife attack.

The hearing was adjourned after only a few minutes, with Justice Greenberg setting a tentative trial date for January 15, 2020.
