According to a poll released by the Economist/YouGov this week, 53 percent of Republicans chose as the superior president over Lincoln - who steered the country through the Civil War era and later abolished slavery.

Republicans’ favorability of marks a stark contrast to respondents who identified themselves as Democrats, with 94 percent of them selecting Lincoln as the greater commander in chief.

Among all Americans, Lincoln reigned supreme once again, beating with a majority vote of 75 percent.
