Two Florida Keys men are in Monroe County jail on rape and burglary charges after police say they broke into a woman’s home and sexually assaulted her for half an hour on Saturday.
Yandri Lopez Macaya, 40, and Yovany Eduardo Vera Lorenzo, 45, both of Marathon, are being held in the Stock Island jail on a bond of $500,000 each.
According to sheriff’s office Detective Rosary Ponce’s report, the woman returned home from Havana Jack’s restaurant in Key Colony Beach around midnight Nov. 30 and fell asleep.
She woke up with one of the men, who police say is Vera Lorenzo, on top of her and raping her. Lopez Macaya then held her down and raped her, Ponce stated in her report.
The woman punched and scratched both men several times during the attack, according to the report. She was finally able to run away after kicking Vera Lorenzo, causing him to fall off the bed and breaking the footboard. She used the board to hit him in the face, allowing her to escape, the woman told police.sonos sonos One (Gen 2) - Voice Controlled Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa Built-in - Black read more
She ran to a Chevron gas station at 3896 Overseas Highway and asked the clerk to call police, which she did.
The clerk said she saw the two men hanging around her house at 5:30 a.m. before she left for work, and they tried to flirt with her.
Ponce stated that there were signs of struggle inside the woman’s home. The back window was open, as was the back door, which was in the locked position, “consistent with forced entry,” Ponce wrote in her report.
There was also a screwdriver near the door and two chairs flipped over, according to the report.
