Former NBA commissioner David Stern has died aged 77 two weeks after undergoing emergency surgery to address a sudden brain hemorrhage. 

The NBA released a statement about Stern's passing on Wednesday afternoon.  

Included in the statement were heartfelt remarks from current commissioner Adam Silver, who expressed his condolences for Stern's family.

Former NBA commissioner David Stern remains in serious condition in a New York-area hospital following surgery to address a sudden brain hemorrhage on Thursday.
