A mum has sparked online debate after she questioned whether it was 'illegal' to put two children in shopping trolleys while buying groceries. 

The mum posted a picture to a Facebook group for Sydney mothers showing her two children sitting in the Coles trolley, with their legs dangling through the bars.

'I was told off by a lady today and she told me it is illegal,' she wrote, Yahoo reported.

'Is she correct?'
