A stranger who grabbed a teenage girl in the dark had his head smashed in by her stepfather.

Amos Carpenter, 40, clad in a hoodie, grabbed the 17-year-old and pulled her towards him after she got out of her car in Noosa, Queensland, in last September.

After the young girl pushed Carpenter away from her and started to scream, her stepfather ran out of the house and began knocking him on the head with a metal pole.

Carpenter pleaded guilty to common assault on Tuesday at Noosa Magistrates Court.
