Hard-left Labour contender Rebecca Long Bailey was ridiculed last night after giving Jeremy Corbyn ‘10 out of 10’ for his leadership.

The party’s business spokesman lavished praise on the outgoing leader during her campaign launch despite him overseeing Labour’s worst election defeat since 1935.

She refused to distance herself from his failed manifesto and insisted the party needed a ‘proud socialist’ to take over.

It came as former Labour home secretary Jack Straw warned the party would be signing a ‘collective suicide note’ if it elected another far-Left leader like her.

Mrs Long Bailey insisted she ‘was not anybody’s continuity candidate’.

But she told ITV News: ‘I thought Corbyn was one of the most honest, kind, principled politicians I’ve ever met. I’d give him 10 out of 10, because I respect him and I supported him all the way through.’

One Labour MP responded: ‘10 out of 10? How about minus 59: the number of MPs we lost?

‘What an insult to millions of people who felt let down by Jeremy Corbyn.’
