Australians arriving home from overseas will be forced to serve out their two week self-isolation period in hotels, the prime minister has announced.

Scott Morrison announced a series of measures to crack down on arrivals from overseas following a national cabinet meeting on Friday afternoon. 

Mr Morrison said the Australian Defence Force will help state and territory law enforcement enforce the new rules, which kick in at 11.59pm on Saturday night.
