A social media video that captured a toddler smoking marijuana has led to the arrest of his sister, Texas police say.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says it learned of the video Monday that shows a 3-year-old inhaling from a blunt inside a car as others in the vehicle laugh and encourage him. That prompted an investigation leading to the arrest of the boy’s 18-year-old sister on a charge of endangering a child, Sheriff Javier Salazar said during a news conference Thursday.
“I think they thought it was just hilarious,” Salazar said. “You can tell by watching the video that they thought it was the funniest thing ever that this little boy was smoking a blunt and coughing and getting physically ill as a result of it.”
McClatchy News is not identifying the woman to protect the child’s identity.
San Antonio TV station KABB obtained the video. It appears to be taken on Snapchat and uploaded to Facebook.
The sheriff’s office was alerted to the video by a nonprofit organization that cares for children. Officials say they do not know when it was recorded.
The 18-year-old also recorded what seems to be a confession while she livestreamed an interview with investigators, officials say. The sheriff’s office is seeking to recover the recording from social media.sonos sonos One (Gen 2) - Voice Controlled Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa Built-in - Black read more
“It’s just bizarre,” Salazar said.
The investigation into the case is ongoing. Officials say the boy is at home and doing well.
He will be drug tested to confirm he inhaled marijuana and whether any additional narcotics are in his system, officials say.
