FBI arrest five men over plot to kidnap and kill Michigan's Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer because of her strict COVID-19 lockdown and create their own 'self-sufficient society' Five people were arrested in a raid on Thursday morning over the alleged plot According to the FBI, they had been planning since June to 'take a governor' The suspects were part of a group who wanted to form their own 'self-sufficient society' after the state governments' handling of COVID-19  According to an FBI informant who is part of a known militia group, the men contacted them asking them to get involved  Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, Brandon Caserta and 24-year-old Ty Garbin were all taken into custody Fox had written on Facebook that Whitmer was a 'tyrant b***h' and said: 'I don’t know, boys, we gotta do something'  Whitmer was widely condemned in Michigan for enforcing a lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19  Conservative critics said she was depriving them of their right to work and they stormed the state capitol building with guns

Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer was widely criticized for her strict lockdown rules that many said violated the Constitution because it stopped them from being able to work 

Five men have been arrested in an FBI raid in Michigan over plots to kidnap and assassinate the state's Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer who they believe 'violated' the US Constitution this year with tough pandemic lockdown laws.

The five men were taken into custody in a raid on a house in suburban Detroit on Thursday morning.

They have been named as Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, Brandon Caserta and 24-year-old Ty Garbin. 

None of the other suspects' ages have yet been released. 

In their arrest affidavit, the FBI wrote: 'Several members talked about murdering "tyrants" or "taking' a sitting governor".  

The Detroit News first shared details of the FBI operation. It claims that in June, some of the men held a meeting with 13 other people where they discussed forming their own 'self-sufficient' society.
