A surfer is missing after a possible shark attack at a popular Western Australian beach. 

St John Ambulance said they were at the scene of the reported attack at Kelp Beds in Wylie Bay, near Esperance about 10.50am on Friday morning. 

A surf board has been recovered from the water but its rider - believed to be an adult male - has not yet been located, police said.
