Hundreds of protesters have clashed with police in a 'Freedom Day' rally calling for Daniel Andrews to be sacked.

The crowd, carrying banners claiming COVID-19 is a hoax, had gathered outside Parliament on Tuesday morning, despite the city no longer being in lockdown.

Others carried signs which read: 'Don't trust the government'.

Police formed a 'ring of steel' around the rowdy group at the Bourke St and Spring St intersection just after midday, making several arrests.

One demonstrator who was pinned to ground could be heard yelling: 'I can’t breathe'.

He was later seen being escorted away in handcuffs by several police officers.
