MasterChef fans were left bamboozled last night after one of the four contestants was mysteriously edited out the show without any explanation.

The mystery chef's disappearance emerged at the start of the BBC1 hit when a statement appeared on screen saying: 'This programme has been edited and features the original four contestant who took part.'

The announcement sent viewers into a frenzy on social media as they tried to work out why the fourth cook had been cut out.

Some watching the show shared posts they believe showed glimpses of the mystery chef's neck or arms while one of the remaining three chefs cooked for judges Gregg Wallace, Marcus Wareing and Monica Galletti.

The missing chef, believed to be a man, had been due to take part feared skills test - a fixture of show's first round - but only contestants Guillame from London, Burhan from Coventry and Scott from Manchester were shown doing it.

The mystery chef had been due to have a go at Mr Wareing's version of French classic Crêpes Suzette - but the attempt was never shown feeding speculation among fans that it had been an unmitigated disaster.
