Sigh of relief in Victoria as the state records NO new coronavirus cases after fears of a third deadly wave imported from NSW

Victoria has recorded no new locally acquired cases of coronavirus for the fourth day in a row.

Six cases were identified in returned travellers already completing their mandatory hotel quarantine.

The state has been concerned about a potential third wave of Covid after several cases were imported from travellers from New South Wales.

NSW is in the midst of a Covid outbreak which began in the Northern Beaches before spreading through several other areas of Sydney.

The entire nation also remains on high alert as travellers are increasingly returning to Australia with mutated strains of the virus, like the one wreaking havoc on the UK at the moment.

Victoria conducted 23,412 tests in the latest testing period, down from 28,337 the day earlier. 

There are 45 active cases in the state. 

Anxiety grew in Queensland on Saturday as it was revealed a returned traveller on a Jetstar flight from Melbourne flew to Brisbane with the UK strain of the virus on January 5.
