Melbourne may have lost its status as one of the world's most liveable cities during the pandemic, but it has unexpectedly picked up another top global ranking.

Despite enduring four hard lockdowns in the last year, the Victorian capital came first in online accommodation platform Nestpick's Work-From-Anywhere Index.

Sydney came third in the study by the Dutch company, which marked 75 cities on costs, infrastructure, legislation and freedoms, and liveability.

Melbourne's main advantages over Sydney in Nestpick's findings was that it was cheaper to rent a home office space and scored better on 'culture and leisure' and cost of living.
