Victoria's state of emergency has been extended again despite no new cases being reported on Saturday and restrictions gradually being eased.

The system was first enabled in March 2020 and from 11:59pm on July 1st the emergency powers of Premier Dan Andrews and Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton were extended until 11:59pm July 29.

The move comes after Andrews' government pulled the plug on Paradigm Music Festival on the eve of it beginning after concerns over capacity of patrons.

The Andrews Government first brought in the state of emergency powers on March 16, 2020, and has quietly extended it for the last two months despite Victoria having its coronavirus situation under control.

The first state of emergency was initially set to remain in place for four weeks, but has since been extended 18 times.

The powers of the order include 'detaining people, restricting movement and preventing entry to premises', through lockdowns, mandatory mask wearing and hotel quarantine.

The extension of the state of emergency powers means the government has the legal right to lockdown until July 29.

The state emergency was signed off to 'assist with measures designed to 'flatten the curve' of Covid-19 and give our health system the best chance of managing the virus', Mr Andrews said last year.
