A killer who knifed his neighbour to death while on licence for previous offences of violence has been jailed for at least 23-and-a-half years.

Abdi Ibrahim Osman, 43, stabbed 26-year-old Nahid Ahmed in the chest outside a tower block in Enfield, north London, after kicking the victim's BMW.

Mr Ahmed was described as a 'very well-liked and respected, hardworking, law-abiding citizen'.

Describing him as her 'whole world' his mother Rushanara Ahmed said Nahid and her had 'been a team' for the first 17 years of his life.

She said: 'I am left without my son. I grieve for him every minute of every day. My life is over but continues on auto-pilot.'

Osman moved into the tower block in January 2020 whilst still on licence for offences of attempted robbery, and Inflicting GBH imposed in 2016.

On the evening of September 12, he had been seen staggering around drunk and shouting before the killing.

Mr Ahmed had spent the day with his family and taken his mother and sister shopping and to visit relatives. After returning, he had returned to sit in his car whilst he spoke to his friends on his mobile.

A neighbour saw Osman kick Nahid's BMW before the victim got out and pushed Osman backwards, then got back into his car and closed the door.

Shortly after another neighbour had tried to pick up Osman from the ground, but he was too drunk to stand. Ten minutes later the neighbour heard shouting with the defendant abusing Nahid.

Nahid was then speaking to his girlfriend on the phone while he was sat in the car. She heard a drunk man and voices in the background.

While she was chatting she suddenly heard his car door opening and then all she could hear was her boyfriend wheezing. She kept calling his name, but he did not answer.
