England's controversial win over Denmark has sparked outrage among Australian fans after the Danish goalkeeper had a laser shone in his eyes, Brits booed the opposition's national anthem and Raheem Sterling appeared to dive for the winning penalty.

England advanced to their first ever Euros final on Thursday morning with an impressive 2-1 win over Denmark in a game that was marred by several incidents including refereeing blunders, unsportsmanlike play and embarrassing behaviour from English supporters.

Australian pundits suggested Sterling dived to win England a penalty in extra-time, with Socceroos legend Mark Schwarzer saying he 'didn't see a touch'.

One fan in attendance then pointed a laser in the eyes of Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as Harry Kane lined up the penalty, which he would miss before tapping in the rebound.

'Someone in the crowd was pointing a laser into Schmeichel's eyes as he was trying to save the penalty Sterling dived for,' an Australian pundit posted to Twitter.

'Horrible look for England this. Disgraceful.'

Denmark were already heavy underdogs in the semi-final, particularly in the absence of star midfielder Christian Eriksen who went into cardiac arrest during the country's opening Euros 2020 match against Finland.

The Danes opening the scoring in sensational style before an own goal from captain Simon Kjaer saw England draw level. Sterling's acrobatic fall for a penalty in the 103rd minute was enough to push the hosts through.

Australia's Optus Sport hosts agreed the Manchester City winger dived for the penalty, with two former Socceroos stars lamenting the referee's decision.

'No one knows who gave away that penalty,' World Cup hero John Aloisi said on the streaming platform.

'Was there enough contact? I don't think there was... in my opinion, it wasn't a penalty.'

Australia's former goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer agreed, saying Sterling 'milked' the penalty.

'I didn't see any touch whatsoever. Raheem Sterling obviously did well to milk the contact... I think it was really harsh on Denmark,' he said.
