Ms Rayner seized on new figures last month showing the scale of building firms’ donations to the Tories to accuse the party of being in their pockets. But her attack backfired after it emerged that the Greater Manchester MP had accepted a £10,000 donation from a developer to help fund her deputy leadership campaign last year. Angela Rayner (pictured in 2018) is facing claims of double standards for accusing the Tories of doing their ‘developer donors’ bidding’ after taking cash herself from a property firm Last night, Tory MP Alexander Stafford hit out at ‘the shameless hypocrisy of Labour’, adding: ‘There is nothing they won’t say for a quick media hit.’ The row broke out with Ms Rayner still under fire from her own party amid claims of disloyalty to leader Sir Keir Starmer and of harbouring ambitions to replace him had Labour lost this month’s Batley and Spen by-election. Her office has denied the claims but party insiders insist she is now a ‘much weakened’ figure. However, allies still see the plain-speaking MP as one of the best-placed figures to take the fight to Boris Johnson’s party – especially in the North and Midlands. Last night, Tory MP Alexander Stafford (pictured) hit out at ‘the shameless hypocrisy of Labour’, adding: ‘There is nothing they won’t say for a quick media hit' Last month she tore into the Tories after it emerged they had taken nearly £900,000 in donations from property tycoons and developers in the first three months of 2021 alone. The donations came to light after many Tory MPs criticised Government plans to loosen planning controls and blamed the proposals for the loss of the Chesham and Amersham by-election last month. Ms Rayner tweeted: ‘We need to build the council houses and genuinely affordable homes that people need, not more luxury flats to sit empty so wealthy investors can get richer.’ The row broke out with Ms Rayner still under fire from her own party amid claims of disloyalty to leader Sir Keir Starmer (pictured together) and of harbouring ambitions to replace him had Labour lost this month’s Batley and Spen by-election But Tories have now highlighted a £10,000 donation she accepted in March 2020 from Manchester-based Intro Developments. In 2016 it was given permission to convert an Old Trafford office block into 90 flats. Last night, sources close to Ms Rayner dismissed the Tory attacks as ‘pretty pathetic’, saying: ‘She isn’t doing the bidding of anyone, unlike the Tories and their developers’ charter.’ A spokesman for Ms Rayner said: ‘All donations to Angela’s deputy leadership campaign – which finished well over a year ago – were declared in line with the rules.’ Intro Developments declined to comment last night.
