England's streets are deserted while the nation crowds around TVs and pub screens to watch the country in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

Usually bustling streets in London, Bristol, Coventry and Nottingham are abandoned while football fans focus their attention on to the tense scenes at Wembley stadium as the England boys clash against Italy.

Luke Shaw netted a stunning goal on the break to settle early nerves in front of 60,000 fans as the Three Lions look to secure their first major trophy in 55 years.

Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince George, Boris Johnson and Carrie joined fans in singing God Save the Queen ahead of kick-off.

And even the Wimbledon press conference was empty while Serbian winner Novak Djokovic and his Italian opponent Matteo Berrettini discussed their match.

Across the country, millions are cramming into sold-out pub gardens, Sweet Caroline is blaring from sound systems and gallons of beer are being poured into glasses as the nation dreams of victory.

An estimated 35 million people will be tuning in to watch the match, while more than £3 billion will be lavished on bets, drinks and food.

Simon Brown, 36, from London, said that he believes England 'has done well to get to the finals'.

He said: 'I think after coronavirus everyone just wants a reason to be happy and we all got behind it. Even if we don't get through - we've done well to get to the finals. I'll drink to that.

'I think England will win. You've got to get behind the team - you've got to. We've got the home advantage and the crowd will be behind them. It's now or never.'

Mr Brown also said that while it was difficult to find a place to watch the game, he and his friend have managed to book a bar in Chiswick.

He added: 'It would be a shame if they lose because the atmosphere is so good and everyone's so happy and that would definitely dent it. But we'll see.'
