A town in Perth is divided over the sound of basketballs coming from a local court with one frustrated resident claiming he listens to the balls bounce 'seven hours a day'.
The inner-city council of Victoria Park has come under fire for sounds coming from two basketball courts in a busy Laithlain Zone 2X, a popular park which was part of a $3million upgrade in December 2019.
While the upgrade was originally a very popular decision, it didn't take long for disgruntled locals to take offence to the repetitive thwack of basketballs hitting the backboards of the hoops and multiple noise complaints were filed.
An acoustic engineer's report found the sound in question did exceed the daytime assigned level noise criteria by 20dB, according to standards set by the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997.

The offending hoops were removed from the basketball courts and local council closed the popular facilities for nearly a year, PerthNow reported.
Two different noise accentuating backboards have been trialled in an effort to reduce the nuisance noise, with local council now hit with a new complaint.
Disgruntled residents have now taken umbrage over the sound of basketballs slapping on the surface of the concrete and steel courts.
One frustrated homeowner who had supported the upgrade when it was first pitched said he now
