The Matildas lost the game 4-3 but not before there were howls of protest from fans stuck at home in Australia who couldn't watch it on the main Seven broadcast. Instead it was pushed onto one of the network's 'backwater' channels reserved for re-runs and special interests instead of the mainstream regular channel. The main channel opted to show a re-run of the beach volleyball semi-final from earlier in the day instead.
