An off-duty sheriff’s deputy working security at a car lot in Kentucky was shot and killed after being ambushed early Thursday while sitting in his unmarked vehicle, police said.
Someone came came up to the vehicle’s window on Rockford Lane and shot Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Shirley, 26, at around 2.30am, Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Alicia Smiley told news outlets.
Shirley, who was wearing his uniform at the time, managed to call in the shooting and was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery but died of his injuries.
