An elderly farmer is devastated after discovering 35 of his horses dead in a paddock - with police describing the scene as 'horrendous'.
The animals - including pregnant mares and foals - were found with multiple gunshot wounds on a property 60km north of Longreach, in western Queensland, on Thursday afternoon.
The farmer wasn't home at the time of the attack, believed to be on Tuesday and Wednesday, as he was in hospital.
A member of the public found the horses.
