Nicola McDermott has bettered the Australian women's high jump record for the third time this year to win the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
McDermott cleared 2.02m at the second attempt, before just clipping the bar with her third and final try at 2.04m.
McDermott equalled the best-ever performance by an Australian female high jumper at Olympic level, with Michele Brown also finishing second the last time the Games were hosted by Tokyo in 1964.
The achievement comes after McDermott revealed the beautiful handwritten notes she made for herself as a child to motivate her to reach the Olympics.
“I’m standing out there alone but I’m not afraid,” the note obtained by News Corp reads.
“The sun is shining, there is no shade. Everyone is cheering. I can’t believe what I’m hearing. I wish I could fly.
