Katie Price's family and friends are rallying around her after she was 'punched in the face' in an 'unprovoked 1.30am attack' in the early hours of Monday morning.

The TV personality, 43, was taken to hospital following the alleged assault at a home in Essex where she was staying while her 'mucky mansion' is reportedly being renovated.

However, the reality star has revealed that she plans to return to work and present a prize at the the LGBT Awards on Friday - despite friends saying she is 'too upset' to go back to the home she was attacked in.

She is currently staying with a friend, while others picked up her belongings from the Essex home.

A man, 32, was released on bail after he was arrested for assault and coercive control over the alleged attack.

Price said she was attacked as she watched TV - forcing her to flee in terror to her son Harvey's nearby home. Pictures, published in the Sun, show the mother-of-five with bruises on her face and cuts on her lips.

She said: 'I've got a big bruise, my face is all puffy, and I went to hospital. I'm still all dazed. I'm devastated. I ran away after being punched — I ran to Harvey's house nearby and have now done damage to my feet, which I previously injured.'

She said the alleged assault was 'unprovoked', adding: 'I was just sitting there watching telly when the assault happened.'

A source said today: 'Katie is so upset and far too emotional to go back to the home she was attacked in. She's sent friends to pick up some stuff she needs from the Essex house so she's comfortable.'

An Essex Police spokesman said on Tuesday: 'A 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault, theft and coercive and controlling behaviour has been released on bail until September 20.'

It comes as neighbours said they heard 'loads of shouting and screaming' on the night the model was rushed to hospital.

One neighbour told MailOnline 'There was something kicking off because I heard loads of shouting and screaming. It was definitely going off.

'It was anti social and sounded like a load of p***heads coming back from the pub. There was a real kerfuffle.

'Then I saw a car parked across the road for ages. Around half an hour after that I heard loads of talking.

'I came downstairs to see what was going, but I don't know what time it was because I didn't have my phone with me. I didn't see or hear any cops. I didn't see any blue lights.'

Another said: 'We heard an argument at about 11pm. I didn't hear anything at 1.30am when the police were supposed to have been called because I was asleep.

'I know that Katie Price had been living next door. I don't think I had heard any big arguments before last night.'

In a statement, Essex police said: 'We were called by colleagues in the ambulance service to reports of an assault in Little Canfield, shortly after 1.30am this morning, Monday 23 August.

'We arrived and found a woman had sustained a facial injury which required hospital treatment.

'A 32-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody.'

In a further statement, Essex police added: 'Our investigations are continuing at the scene today.'
