A New York City father-of-seven was found dead in a canal a day after remnants of Hurricane Ida pummeled the Northeast last week.

The body of Michael Robinson, 40, was discovered in Brooklyn's Gowanus Canal, near 25th St, around 12.45pm on September 2.

According to police, Robinson was still wearing his headphones around his neck along with a baseball cap on his head when they pulled him from the canal.

Of the 13 people killed by the storm, Robinson was one of two who didn't die from flooding in a basement apartment.

'He was my heart,' said Natasha. 'He loved his kids, my kids. He would take on your family and consider them his family.'

Natasha said her brother was temporarily residing in a shelter just a few blocks from the canal when he passed.

Robinson was set to be relocated to a permanent residence later this month, his sister said.
