Some shared their frustrations on Twitter, joking that the broadcaster had neglected to agree a deal for the sound.

One person wrote: 'Channel 4 lawyers furiously reading the small print in their US Open final coverage for tonight. Sound seemingly not part of the deal.'

Another said: 'Channel 4 going for the no sound option tonight???'

It was announced earlier today that Raducanu's shot at US Open glory would be available to watch for Britons on free-to-air TV.

The 18-year-old has captivated the nation with her exploits in New York and she takes on Fernandez in the showpiece event hoping to become the first British woman to win a grand slam in 44 years.
