A gunman - believed to be between 15 and 17 years of age - opened fire at the Haunted Hills Hayride in North Versailles, about 15 miles from Pittsburgh. The hayride was meant to be part of a Lights Out Event to celebrate the start of the fall season. Saturday was the first night of the season. The group had argued at the ticket booth before the gates were to be opened at 8:15pm. The boys were near a ride boarding area before three to four gunshots were heard. Allegheny County Police Lieutenant Vernando Costa called the aftermath of the shooting 'chaotic' as 500 people were seen scattering from the area. 'When a 15-year-old gets shot at a hayride, I think it's a terrible shame,' Costa told NBC. 'You come to an area where you’re going have fun. Anybody could have been hurt.' 'We were in our scene getting ready for more people to come down,' employee Pipper Donaldson told KDKA. 'We heard the gunshots and somebody came running past us and didn’t tell us anything. '(We heard) about four or five (gunshots), and they evacuated us. They didn’t tell us anything until the end until we were ready to leave.'
