NBC football announcer Al Michaels drew a wave of criticism by misidentifying the wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford during Sunday night's broadcast.

As Stafford was guiding the Rams to a 34-14 win over the visiting Chicago Bears in his first game with Los Angeles, Michaels was describing the 33-year-old quarterback's struggles with the Detroit Lions over the previous dozen years.

'He was not being helped — as his wife Kelly looks on — by that defense and they never really had a running game in Detroit,' Michaels said as NBC cameras went to a split screen of Stafford and a blonde woman.
