The woman who murdered her boyfriend by sedating and gassing him allegedly tried to pay a friend to lie for her after allegedly getting the idea from a popular American TV sitcom.

Natasha Beth Darcy fed Mathew Dunbar a sedative-laced milkshake before gassing him at his Pandora property in August 2017. She was set to inherit his $3.5million property as the sole beneficiary.

She was found guilty of murder in June after a lengthy trial.

During the trial she allegedly offered a high school friend $20,000 to lie in court after becoming inspired by an episode of the 1990s comedy Frasier.

'I was watching an episode of Frasier when Niles needed him to lie in court and say he didn't know that Niles was in love with Daphne,' she wrote in a letter in 2020, according to Nine News.

'It got me thinking, if only I could ask somebody to say that Mathew told them he was planning his suicide maybe a few or several days before he passed.'

Darcy now faces two counts of intending to pervert the course of justice, which could earn her an extra 25 years in jail.

She had claimed it was an assisted suicide and that Dunbar, 42, had been depressed over his sexuality and had talked of suicide.

Darcy pleaded not guilty to the murder charges but was convicted and will be sentenced in October.
