A rape victim has bravely spoken out about the moment her childhood friend 'betrayed' her by launching a sex attack on her as she slept.
Shannon Wood, 21, fell asleep on the sofa after a party at her best friend's house in Glasgow, Scotland.
When she woke up she found Andrew Kane - a friend who she had known since she was a child - raping her.
In April this year, Kane, 21, of Glasgow, was jailed for six years after admitting rape.
Now Shannon has bravely waived her right to anonymity in order to tell her story and 'help other survivors know they can get through it too'.
Shannon, a carer, said she had known her attacker since childhood as her mother, Linda Wood, 50, and Kane's father were good friends growing up.
She said: 'Andrew and I were close growing up and I trusted him.
'They (our parents) had been close for over 30 years and my mother knew Andrew since he was a little baby. So, when Andrew and I were little, we always played together.'

As Shannon and Kane grew older, they went to different schools and drifted apart.
But years later, in September 2012, when they were both 12, they reconnected.
'Over the years, we always chatted about our families and supported each other.
'We'd hang out at parks, go cycling or for long walks.'
In 2016, Shannon met someone and they got a house together. Meanwhile, Kane got a girlfriend and they had a child.
Then, in February 2020, Shannon's best friend, Argylle Pollock, 21, also a carer, had a house party one night.
Shannon's then-partner had work the next day, so she went alone.
