United Airlines announced that 97% of the company's US-based employees are fully vaccinated with less than a week until the deadline for staff to receive the shot or be fired.
The airline released a memo to its employees on Wednesday which stated 'vaccine requirements work'. It said that the number does not include the 'small number' of staffers who were exempt for medical or religious reasons.
In August, United Airlines said that they would require their 67,000 US-based employees to be fully vaccinated by September 27 or be let go as soon as September 28.
Last month, they shared that up to 90% of pilots and nearly 80% of flight attendants were vaccinated, but did not report companywide figures. Only about 55% of the American population and 66% of American adults have been fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.
