Detective Inspector Kev Goan said the alleged victim died after suffering a single laceration to his throat. Queensland Police believe the 'easygoing, nice' victim was known to businesses in the centre but not to his alleged attacker. 'I can say the gentleman is known within the centre and the dealings he's had with proprietors within the centre has been very positive,' Det Insp Goan said. 'He readily engages with others and is described as a fairly laid-back, easygoing nice gentleman.' It is believe both of the men were not employees at the shopping centre. Police are speaking to witnesses and are going through CCTV footage to determine the movements of both of the men prior to the alleged attack Det Insp Goan said there were a number of witnesses and CCTV footage would be crucial in piecing together what happened. 'The crime scene is being secured and cooperation from Centre Management has been tremendous,' Det Insp Goan said. 'As you can imagine with a stabbing incident, there’s an amount of blood everywhere.' The shopping centre is closed while forensic teams scour the area for evidence. Police are working with staff and witnesses and combing through CCTV footage to determine the movements of the deceased and accused. The 38-year-old man will face Cairns Magistrate Court on Thursday after being charged with murder.
