Prince William was spotted in the crowd watching his beloved Aston Villa play Chelsea last night - as his wife Kate Middleton hosted a photography event.

The Duke of Cambridge was at Stamford Bridge to see Villa lose 4-3 to the home team after a tense penalty shoot-out.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge dazzled in a tailored £400 white gown as she hosted an event to thank those who worked on her Hold Still project.

BBC's Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, which aired last night, featured Prince William and other Royals sharing their memories of the late Duke of Edinburgh, following his death in April this year.

The special programme, which also features his brother Prince Harry, his father Prince Charles and uncle Prince Andrew, was originally arranged to mark the Duke's 100th birthday in June, two months before his centenary.

Interviews with the various royals were recorded both before and after Prince Philip's death, with Prince Harry's tributes filmed in California, where he lives with wife Meghan Markle and their two children Archie and Lilibet.

Prince William experienced a range of emotions throughout last night's Carabao Cup clash, which ended as a 1-1 draw before his side ultimately lost on penalties.

Chelsea scored first, but the Prince was cheering and roaring with joy when Villa later equalised. In penalties , Aston Villa missed two before a Chelsea miss and a penalty save allowed them back into the game.

In the Duke of Edinburgh documentary, broadcast on BBC1 last night, Prince William fondly remembered his grandfather's playful side, recalling how he would 'get in trouble' with the Queen with practical jokes.

The Duchess's event was the highlight of a photography competition for members of the public.

Kate Middleton, 39, a keen photographer, started her campaign during the first lockdown last year to ask the public to submit images which captured the period.

The result was a photography book, Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation in 2020, which featured 100 final 'poignant and personal' portraits selected from 31,000 entrants and quickly became a bestseller upon its release in May.
