The ex-cop father of an alleged gunman whose rampage at a Russian university left six people dead has admitted giving his son £350 towards the shotgun used in the attack.

Timur Bekmansurov, 18, was described as having a morbid fascination with a previous deadly school shooting earlier this year, telling his ex-girlfriend that he thought it was 'cool.'

He remains under armed guard at a hospital in Perm, in the Urals, where one leg has been amputated and is being treated for multiple abdominal injuries after he was shot by a policeman.

Six people, including five students and a doctor, were killed in the horrific campus shooting at Perm State University on Monday morning that saw terrified students leaping out of windows to escape the carnage.

Funerals have taken place for some of the victims whose families have been contacted by President Vladimir Putin who called it 'a great loss not only for the families who lost their children but for the whole country.'

Dozens of others were wounded when the gunman went on the rampage with a 12-gauge shotgun with students jumping out of upper floor windows to flee.

Marat Bekmansurov, 40, a policeman before becoming a soldier-for-hire, admitted he had helped his son buy the weapon he allegedly used in the campus bloodbath.

Timur is now guarded round the clock in hospital by 18 police backed up by OMON special forces troops.

His condition with wounds to his leg and lung, liver, and intestines, is described as 'unstable, extremely difficult'.

'He saved money on his own for this gun, and I added (around £350) for him to buy it,' said the father.

The teenager 'received a hunting permit and passed a medical examination, getting all the necessary documents to own a smooth-bore pump-action shotgun.'

He went to a local shooting gallery.

An unnamed ex-girlfriend told journalists that Timur Bekmansurov had been excited by a school shooting in Kazan in which nine died, a reaction which left her shocked.

They split up soon afterwards.

'It was a shock for me, but Bekmansurov constantly joked that it was cool,' she said.

Timur 'did not condemn the shooter's actions,' but said he should have 'specified the number of people he wanted to kill'.

'He spoke negatively about humanity, explaining that people are "rotten,"' she said.

A funeral was held for Ekaterina Shakirova, 19, who was walking back from a university canteen with her friend Ksenia Samchenko, 18, when both were shot dead.

Also killed was Alexandra Mokhova, 20, who had wanted to become a mathematics teacher. A message on social media for Alexandra said: 'Rest in peace our dear girl.'

Another was Anna Aigeldina, 24, from Udmurtia, who had a teaching role at Perm
