Sonny Bill Williams has revealed a shock battle with drugs during the early stages of his NRL career with the Bulldogs
Sonny Bill Williams has admitted his shock battle with drugs was so bad a doctor told him he 'could have died' after going on a four-day bender before surgery.
The footy star, whose new book 'Sonny Bill Williams: You Can't Stop the Sun from Shining' details his personal life from the early stages of his career when he was a teenage sensation in the NRL.
The now-36-year-old explained the pressures and temptations of being a star athlete led him to drugs, admitting one weekend of abuse nearly killed him.
'One time I went on a bender that lasted from Friday night to Monday morning,' Williams wrote in the book.
'The only reason I came home is I knew I had a surgery appointment at 11am.
'I don't remember anything about the operations except waking up having my girlfriend crying next to the bed and the doc really gave it to me, telling me I had so many drugs in my system I could have died.'
