Four large Covid-19 checkpoints have been erected on the Gold Coast highway in the latest sign Queensland's borders could remain shut for months to come.

The four structures held down by concrete blocks were installed on the northbound lanes on the highway at Bilinga near the Gold Coast Airport last week.

Officials at the central border checkpoint will process hundreds of vehicles every day as the Sunshine State cracks down on unvaccinated truck drivers.

Following a suite of Covid-positive long-haul drivers entering the state, a drive-in vaccine hub has also been deployed at Tugun, the Courier Mail reported.

The precautionary measures come as the latest sign Queensland intends to keep its borders firmly closed to Victoria and NSW.

A similar structure was established on the busy M1 motorway during the extended border closure during last year's outbreak that remained an eyesore for months.

It comes as Queensland's leaders continue to shift the goalposts on when the state government will finally reopen to the rest of the world.

The Sunshine State slammed its doors on NSW back in July, and Victoria and the ACT soon after when Covid-19 outbreaks began to spiral.

The two states and territory are considered Covid hotspots meaning those who have spent time in those regions in the last 14 days is barred from entering Queensland.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would only open the state borders once 80 per cent of eligible people are vaccinated if hospitals across the state were ready for a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has accused the premier of refusing to open the borders unless she is given more federal funding for hospitals.

Ms Palaszczuk denies that, noting every state and territory health minister had last week jointly signed a letter raising health funding issues with the federal government.

'We want to make sure that our hospitals are getting ready,' she told reporters on Tuesday.

'You only have to see what's happening in NSW and Victoria ... the huge pressure that the staff are going to be under, and they're constantly under this pressure.

'When we do have a large outbreak of Delta in this state there's going to be added pressure, and that's not just happening in Australia, it's happening across the globe. These are unprecedented times.'
