Premier Dominic Perrottet (pictured) will scrap his predecessors 11am Covid pressers
Premier Dominic Perrottet will scrap Gladys Berejiklian's hallmark 11am Covid press conferences and release the numbers online two hours earlier as NSW begins to open up with over 70 per cent of the state vaccinated.
The new state leader has announced NSW Health will instead release Covid-19 numbers at 9am starting from next week.
Mr Perrottet said NSW residents could expect some physical appearances from their new premier but only when he thought it was necessary.
'I'll make the decisions in relation to addressing my very good friends in the press at the time that I think is most appropriate,' he said.
'I know what I will seek to do is provide the health numbers earlier in the morning from next week.'
Sky News political editor said the move was a move to distance himself from his predecessor and avoid becoming the 'Covid numbers premier'.
'Gladys Berejiklian, part of the aura she created around herself was those 11am pressers,' Mr Clennell said.
'That's the end of that.'
Ex-premier Gladys Berejiklian announced she would no longer be holding her stalwart press conferences about a month ago because she needed a 'clear head'
Last month ex-premier Gladys Berejiklian announced she would no longer front her stalwart press conferences because she needed a 'clear head'.
However many now believe this decision was triggered by her involvement in the investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).
The ICAC is investigating if she tried to help her disgraced ex-lover Daryl Maguire in his efforts to obtain $5.5million in public grants while they were both in office.
Ms Berejiklian said she would only front the state when there was a major milestone or major issue, an approach now adopted by her successor Mr Perrottet.
The significant change to the state's pandemic strategy comes as an overhaul to NSW's roadmap out of lockdown was announced on Wednesday.
The changes came as the state hit a highly-anticipated milestone of 70 per cent of the eligible population fully vaccinated.
This means hard fought for freedoms will finally be triggered on Monday October 11, including the reopening of pubs, restaurants, cafes, hairdressers and retail stores.
Mr Perrottet has indicated he would like to restore additional freedoms to weary residents to boost mental health and bring normalcy back to the state.
This could mean nightclubs and amusement parks, originally slated to reopen in December, could instead open within weeks at 80 per cent fully vaccinated.
The premier has also voiced his intention to scrap the mask mandate for indoor workers ahead of the earmarked date of December 1.
The easing of restrictions around children's swimming lessons at indoor pools will also extend to injury rehabilitation sessions and sports training.

The crisis cabinet meetings have been rebranded to the Covid and Economic Recovery Committee with the new plan to focus on healing the economy.
'We really want businesses, as we head into the summer months, to open up our state, to invest,' he said.
'And in order to do that they need to have
