Insane moment a Westfield ROOF collapses on terrified shoppers during an electrifying superstorm with the entire centre evacuated and three stores destroyed By Peter Vincent For Daily Mail Australia Published: 08:26 BST, 14 October 2021 | Updated: 08:27 BST, 14 October 2021 Viewcomments The terrifying moment the ceiling inside a busy shopping centre dramatically collapsed next to a packed Woolworths during huge storm cell has been caught on video. The ceiling above three stores inside Westfield at Mount Druitt sagged and fell in, sending panels and cladding crashing onto the floor of the shops as a violent superstorm hammered Sydney on Thursday afternoon. The dangerous collapse happened to stores surrounding a packed Woolworths in the centre around 4pm. The dramatic video captured from inside the mall shows sections of the ceiling above the Best & Less store crashing onto the floor as flood water begins to pour down. Other photos taken by rescuers show an adjacent Indian restaurant completely destroyed by the roof collapse. The entire Westfield Mall was evacuated and four stores affected, NSW Fire and Rescue told Daily Mail Australia. The service received a call at 4.09pm and rushed to the scene with two trucks including eight firies. No injuries were recorded. 'Based on what we know the rain water seemed to have channelled itself to right above the store and pooled there causing the ceiling to collapse.'
