He was reportedly climbing into the back of a vessel when the shark latched on to his left leg about 6.40pm on Friday. He suffered injuries to his thigh and shin and was taken by boat to a medical centre on Hamilton Island before being flown to Mackay Hospital where he is in a stable condition. Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor Julianne Ryals said the man received first aid from bystanders who did "excellent work". The man required stitches but was otherwise doing well.
