Police last night described a 14-year-old's death at a train station as a 'shocking loss of life'.

Emergency services were called to Glasgow's High Street station yesterday afternoon and the boy was taken by ambulance to the city's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police Scotland stated that he had not been struck by a train.

Detective Inspector Iain Nelson of Greater Glasgow Division said: 'This has been a shocking loss of a young life and a significant investigation is under way.

'Specialist officers are supporting the boy's family at this incredibly difficult time.

'Inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can help is urged to get in touch as soon as
