A Pfizer vaccine booster dose will soon be rolled out to Australia, but the government says a third jab will not become mandatory.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt confirmed an application from Pfizer is currently with the TGA for approval of a third dose - with jabs going into arms as early as the end of next week.

'We're ready. We're in a position to commence and, and to make sure that that additional protection is provided,' Mr Hunt said.
