New Jersey Republicans are outraged after an undercover video released Monday shows campaign staff for Democratic Governor Phil Murphy saying he is waiting until after reelection to release a state-wide broad vaccine mandate. Wendy Martinez, who works for Hispanic outreach for Murphy's campaign, told an undercover reporter for conservative undercover operations group Project Veritas that the governor doesn't want to reveal the plan yet because right now it's all about him winning. 'He's going to do it, but he couldn't do it before the elections because [independent and undecided voters are] all into all the s***, my rights, my s***,' Martinez said in the video. 'And they don't care if they kill everybody,' she continued. 'He will, but right now it is about him winning.' She said the mandates would look similar to those in California, but said he doesn't want to announce them until after the election, suggesting it would be 'political suicide' to not wait. In the undercover stint, another campaign staffer, digital manager Matthew Urquijo, was asked about the governor's alleged plans for vaccine mandates. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy's Hispanic outreach director for his campaign, Wendy Martinez, said the governor is waiting until after reelection to introduce a plan for widespread vaccine mandates In an undercover stint from Project Veritas, another campaign staffer, Matthew Urquijo (pictured), said Murphy can't announce the plan 'because it's election season' BREAKING: Campaign Senior Advisor Reveals @GovMurphy to Impose State-Wide COVID Vax Mandate AFTER Re-Election¿He [Murphy] is going to do it [COVID vaccine mandate], but he couldn¿t do it before the elections."#MurphyMandates pic.twitter.com/kD298nvp2U — Jered Ede (Project Veritas Chief Legal Officer) (@Jtaylorede) October 26, 2021 'I think so. I think the problem is right now because it's election season, he's not going to have people say like, 'We're going to have a mandate now,'' Urquijo said. During a press conference, when asked if he would consider imposing a vaccine mandate, Murphy said: 'I would never say heck no to anything, we've still got to leave options on the table – particularly if this thing takes a turn for the negative.' Republicans in the Garden State are furious over the hidden plans. 'This extremely disturbing video appears to confirm what the Murphy campaign has been hinting at - and the NJGOP has been warning about - throughout the summer: that a second Murphy term will bring about the same type of vaccine passports seen in Bill de Blasio's New York, burdening already suffering businesses and discriminating against minority communities in which immunization rates are lower,' NJGOP Executive Director Tom Szymanski said in a statement. In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio imposed a city-wide vaccine mandate where all people are required to show proof of vaccination to enjoy any indoor activities like dining, seeing a movie at the theater or going to a concert at an indoor venue. New Yorkers have an app where they can digitally store their vaccine cards to scan when entering any indoor space. When asked if he would consider imposing a vaccine mandate during a press conference, Murphy said: 'I would never say heck no to anything, we've still got to leave options on the table – particularly if this thing takes a turn for the negative' 'From the beginning of the pandemic, Phil Murphy has been following political science, as opposed to actual science,' Szymanski continued in his statement. 'Purposefully hiding this life-changing information until after the election is as deceitful as it gets.' 'Phil Murphy must immediately state his intentions on this matter before voting ends next week and disclose whether or not data of thousands of New Jerseyans already entered into the Docket App has been harvested for the purpose of implementing a vaccine passport,' he added. The Republican challenger for Murphy is Jack Ciattarelli, a former member of the New Jersey General Assembly. With a week left until the election on November 2, Murphy is still leading against Ciattarelli as he fights for a second term. Project Veritas tried to follow up with Martinez by following her around a parking garage and asking her questions, which she did not answer BREAKING: New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy Campaign Senior Advisor, Wendy Martinez, REFUSES to answer questions over claims Murphy will impose vaccine mandates AFTER re-electionMartinez upon being confronted: ¿You're very good.¿ #MurphyMandates pic.twitter.com/dXPgyuwUSn — Eric Spracklen¿¿¿¿ (@EricSpracklen) October 26, 2021 A Monmouth University poll shows Murphy leading his GOP challenger 50 per cent to 39 per cent, but other recent polls show that the governor's lead is narrowing. An Emerson College/PIX 11 survey showed the margin slip to 6 per cent while a Stockton University poll showed the split at 9 per cent. It appears the change has come recently from Ciattarelli gaining ground with voters 65 and older, but otherwise remain unmoved in recent weeks among other demographics. Independent voters are turning out to be one of the most important voting blocs in New Jersey's gubernatorial election next week. Voters who are not registered as Democrats or Republicans are split 41 per cent for Ciattarelli and 40 per cent for Murphy – with 9 per cent still undecided.
