Ten purebred German Shepherd puppies have been stolen from a pet owner just a week before they were due to be microchipped.

The five-week-old puppies were snatched between 4.30pm and 8pm on Sunday from Amanda Johnston's home on Dundee Road in North MacLean, Queensland.

The thieves also allegedly tied ropes around the puppies' parents, named Sunny and Opal, so they couldn't raise the alarm.

Ms Johnston told Daily Mail Australia she was away from her property for a few hours and arrived home at 8pm to discover ropes around the two adult dogs.

'My dogs normally greet me at the gate and I didn't get greeted like I normally do,' she said.

'I came in the gate, and my black female dog was there with a rope around her waist.'

Ms Johnston thought at first that her energetic Opal was up to mischief and wrapped the rope around herself.

But then her male dog Sunny appeared from around the corner and also had a rope around his waist.
