New York City will begin vaccinating children ages five to 11 at schools starting Thursday in a mad dash to inoculate kids - even as controversy rages over whether the low-risk age group should get the jab.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that following a pending final authorization from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expected some time on Wednesday, city-run COVID vaccination sites will offer children ages 5-11 the FDA-approved Pfizer vaccine as soon as Thursday.

'Tomorrow's going to be a historic day for the city in our fight against COVID as we reach the youngest New Yorkers,' De Blasio said.

Data shows Covid poses a low risk to the age group, with children accounting for less than 0.1 percent of Covid deaths in America.
